Although more than six and a
half million U.S households have purchased something online since 1998,
many people still have big doubts about the safety of the Internet
      (Anderson 28).  Many concerns
have arisen around the Internet because people do not really know the
security of the website that they are dealing with, the safest payment
methods when shopping online, or the possibility of data corruption during
      transmitting.
      However,
many Internet experts believe that data transmit are safe because of the
systems they call Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and Secure Electronic
      Transaction (SET).  They argue
that a waiter has a bigger chance of stealing credit card numbers than a
hacker does of tapping into a customer’s transmission of data over the
Net, as long as the website supports either SSL or SET.
